Proposal 1 – Grid start by Age
Section off the clearly marked start area to prevent the riders congregating in the general area until a pre-determined time.
Start Official to call up the riders (whistle or other clear method), then proceed to allow the riders to line up by year of birth (as opposed to age on day of race). An appropriate small gap can be left between each category if deemed appropriate by the Start Commissaire.
An optional element is to allocate numbers at signing on to riders by their year of birth.ie. Riders born 2000 numbers 1-30 Riders born 2001 numbers 40-70 and so on. This would make it easier to identify which riders should be in which line, but requires 3 signing on sheets and liaison with the judging team to ensure clarity. This may require additional numbers.
Proposal 2 – Grid Start by Average League Position
Section off the clearly marked start area to prevent the riders congregating in the general area until a pre-determined time.
Start Official to call up the riders (whistle or other clear method) to the general area, then proceed to allow the nominated number of riders (quantity TBD 5, 10, 20, 30 etc) to line up by their average league position. The remaining riders then line up. An appropriate small gap can be left between each category if deemed appropriate by the Start Commissaire.
This method has the least affect on the signing on and judging process, however it would create extra work for the league results team as an extra column identifying average result needs to be created. A decision would need to be taken for the very early season events as no average position would be available. This also would have an adverse effect for non-league riders.
