Race Preview – Round 9 – Holme Pierrepont – Nottingham Clarion

Now that the regional power shortage caused by so many NDCXL riders’ washing machines running all last weekend is over we can look ahead to this coming weekend’s racing action.

Round 9 of the SRAM NDCXL series heads to Holme Pierrepont, courtesy of Nottingham Clarion. This is also the National Clarion CX Championships, so expect those Clarion riders not marshaling to be especially motivated.

The current Met Office forecast shows light rain for Friday, and overcast on Saturday, but it’s a good bet that there will be some residual dampness in the ground from last week.

The course will be similar to last year, although the offical word from the organisers is that there will ‘most likely be more mud’. Those not familiar with Holme Pierrepont can expect a good mixture of terrain, from flat open drags along the waterfront, through to tricky, short steep banks. Mud type various around the course, but expect sections to be type 6 or 7, especially at the far end of the course in the trees.

One thing about Holme Pierrepont is that depending upon the section of the course you’re in, passing can be tricky. Don’t save your strength for that heroic last lap pass, only to find that you haven’t got space to do it!
See you all at Holme Pierrepont, and mind those trees!
