[A slightly abridged Race Report this week, as there have been a few issues with timing and thus results for younger riders. Rather than report based on incorrect results, the report will be updated based on the manual timing sheets when available ]

Round 3 of the NDCXL visited Markeaton Park in Derby for the first of two races at the venue this season, courtesy of Cycle Derby. Traditionally the earlier Markeaton race is the drier of the two, and this year was no exception, with riders battling soaring temperatures as well as a tough new course.

With the majority of the course being dry, the pace in the Senior Men’s race was blistering straight from the start, with JLT Condor’s Graham Briggs leading the charge, fresh from his successes in the Tour of Britain. Hoping to stay with Brigg’s pace on the first lap were Mansfield Road Club’s Jonathan Harper, and Tom Seaman (Team Seaman)

The pace remained high throughout the race, with Briggs putting in consistent fast laps. Madison Genesis’ Thomas Stewart moved up to second position as laps two and three went by, and held this place up to the end, with Harper eventually taking third.

First Junior male was Joshua Waters (Sherwood Pines Cycles RT), who rode strongly to also take 7th overall. Second and third Juniors were Simeon Young (Pedalsport) and Paul Milnes’ George Fox.

The Women’s race saw another commanding performance from an on-form Di Lee (Team Mulebar Girl) who once again finished a lap ahead of nearly all her competitors, aside from Veteran winner Maddi Smith (Bolsover & District CC)

Sophie Chastell (M&D Cycles) claimed third overall and first Junior Woman. Second and third Veteran Women were Empella’s Tracey Fletcher and Jane Roberts (Pines Cycles – Felt -Enve).

The Senior Women’s top three was rounded out by Phoebe Sneddon (Team Mulebar Girl) and Sarah Gell (Drighlington BC)

The V40 Men’s race saw Zepnat’s Jim Bryan take the top spot, nearly a minute ahead of chasing rider Aidrian Lawrence (Team Elite), with Peak Road Club’s Dan Cook 20 seconds behind him.

Ellmore Factory Racing’s Graham Clark and Leicestershire Road Club’s Nigel Gregory enjoyed some close competition for the majority of the race, but Clark proved stronger over the last two laps to finish with a 20 second lead. Zepnat’s Christopher Rowe took third
